About

Why we built Hill Wallet

A down payment arrives as one big number with no steps in it. We built Hill Wallet to break it into steps you can see and put a date on.

The problem with one big number

Ask a renter what they need for a first home and you'll hear one figure, then a shrug. The savings account is labelled "house", and nobody can say what month it will be enough.

Spreadsheets and budgeting apps track where the money went. They don't tell you how much you really need, with closing and moving costs, or when you'll have it.

So Hill Wallet adds it up and dates it. On a $260,000 home with 10 percent down, that's $36,000, reached around August 2029 at $850 a month, and the date updates with every deposit.

Why monthly milestones

A month is the unit people live in. $36,000 is abstract; the next $900 is a paycheck decision.

So Hill Wallet splits the total into equal monthly steps and shows how many you've done.

Who we are

We're a planning tool in Portland, Oregon, built for renters who want to buy a first home in the next few years, on their own or as a couple. We came to this from a savings account with a hopeful name, not from banking.

One decision shapes the product. Hill Wallet plans and tracks, and it never touches the money, so it has no reason to push you toward a number you can't keep.

Every date, pace and what if plan is labelled as a projection from your numbers. Save a big month and the date moves up; skip one and it moves later, without a lecture.

The emergency cushion comes first for the same reason. A car repair should cost you a refill, not six months of progress.

What Hill Wallet is and isn't

It is a planner.

You enter your home price and costs. It works out your total, cushion and monthly steps.

It is a log.

You type in each deposit. It keeps the history and updates the date.

It is not a bank or a lender.

No account connection, no money held or moved, no loans, credit checks or rate quotes.

It is not an advice service.

It won't tell you which home to buy or whom to borrow from. The guides show the math; the calls are yours.

It never sends promotional texts.

Climb Alerts are account notices you asked for.

Climb Alerts are account notices, never ads. A reminder on the day you pick, a note when a switchback clears, your sign in code, a renewal notice. Nothing else, ever.

Your phone number is never sold, rented or shared for marketing. It is used only to send the Hill Wallet Climb Alerts you asked for.
